City Switching to DaCast for CapeTV Video Streaming Service

There are some technical issues with DaCast.  Please use this link for Cape TV on the Cape TV page under "Services" at the top menu bar.

The City of Cape Coral is switching its primary mobile video streaming service for CapeTV programming from Ustream to DaCast.

“The City has been researching video streaming services and decided to make the transition to DaCast because of the low-cost premium features included in the their basic plans,” said Public Information Director Connie Barron.  “For a small monthly fee ($19), we now are able to provide ad-free programming for our viewers that would have cost significantly more with Ustream.

Viewers will be able to watch all CapeTV programming including the “live” City Council meetings (Regular and Committee of the Whole) from their mobile devices.  While DaCast will be the primary provider of the video streaming service, the City will continue to simulcast on the City’s Ustream channel.

DaCast is mobile friendly and does not require a special app for viewing.  DaCast is an integrated solution that offers a self-service, all-in-one platform.  The City also purchased a new encoder and special software at a cost of about $850; however, the new equipment provides much-improved video quality for streaming programs.

Committee of the Whole Meetings on CapeTV
Committee of the Whole meetings are held in the meeting room in the Nicholas Annex at 815 Nicholas Parkway.  These are informal, non-voting meetings.  There is no CapeTV broadcasting equipment in the room; however, the City is providing a single-camera view of the proceedings and streaming the meeting "live" on the City's DaCast Channel at www.cape-tv.com.  The videostream also is being simulcast on CapeTV Channel 98.

NOTE:  This videostream is provided as a courtesy to our citizens who may wish to monitor the meeting.  The video and audio quality may be limited by the streaming service and the public wi-fi access in the room.
