Yoe Lopez, Jr., Deputy City Attorney

Mr. Lopez serves as Deputy City Attorney for the City of Cape Coral, where he provides legal counsel and representation to the City Council, City Manager's Office, and all municipal departments.

Background and Experience:

Prior to joining the City of Cape Coral, Mr. Lopez served as a Senior Assistant City Attorney and Police Legal Advisor for the City of Miami Beach. In that capacity, he supervised the City’s Municipal Prosecution Team, which was responsible for the prosecution of criminal violations of the City's Code of Ordinances. He was also responsible for litigating code compliance and building matters before the Special Magistrates of the City to ensure regulatory compliance with all technical statutes, regulations and codes.

Mr. Lopez provided legal counsel to several City boards and committees; negotiated and reviewed contracts and agreements for the City; and drafted necessary ordinances, resolutions, and amendments to the City Code.

In addition, Mr. Lopez represented the City in various civil litigation matters including tort, commercial, land use and construction causes of action. As Police Legal Advisor, he provided legal advice and training to the officers of the Miami Beach Police Department, litigating civil forfeiture cases and Risk Protection Orders, and addressing a multitude of legal matters concerning the Police Department.

Mr. Lopez’s commitment to public service extends to education, where he previously served as an Instructor at Miami-Dade College, School of Justice educating the Law Enforcement Academy, specifically in basic legal training in general subject areas relevant to police, correction, and federal law enforcement officer candidates.

Mr. Lopez's professional experience further consists of serving in positions at other governmental entities which includes the Office of the State Attorney, 2nd Judicial Circuit of Florida, and the Florida Senate.
