Programs at the Freida B. Smith Special Populations include:
Life Skills Development Level 3 – Adult Day Training (ADT)
Building Independence Through Meaningful Daily Activities
The Life Skills Development Level 3 – Adult Day Training (ADT) program supports adults in developing the skills necessary for greater independence and active community involvement. This non-residential program offers training in:
- Daily living skills
- Self-help and adaptive behaviors
- Socialization and interpersonal skills
- Community integration and recreational activities
All activities are tailored to be age-appropriate, culturally relevant, and personally meaningful to each participant. The goal is to help individuals grow in independence, build positive relationships, and make empowered personal choices.
Eligibility:
Participants must be 22 years of age or older and out of the public school system. Those who have not graduated from high school are also eligible.
High School After-School Program
Support for Teenagers Transitioning to Adulthood
Our after-school program provides teenagers with intellectual disabilities a supportive space to socialize, learn, and participate in structured activities after the school day ends. This program focuses on:
- Social engagement
- Life skill development
- Positive recreation
- Peer interaction and support
It’s a safe and engaging environment where teens can build friendships and prepare for adulthood.
Evening Socials & Special Events
Celebrating Community, Friendship, and Fun
The Freida B. Smith Center hosts regular evening socials and special events that bring participants together for fun, laughter, and celebration. These events may include:
- Dances
- Game nights
- Holiday-themed parties
- Community outings
These social experiences help foster a sense of community and belonging while promoting self-expression and joy.
