Old Golf Course Transformation

See More City Projects >>

old golf courseProject Location: 4003 Palm Tree Blvd, Cape Coral

Description: The City purchased a 175-acre abandoned golf course in August 2024, aiming to revitalize a long-blighted area and transform it into a vibrant public space. The site had been unused since 2006, raising community concerns over its condition. Click here for more information regarding the purchase.

The City will assess stormwater and water quality conditions and explore integrated designs that benefit the environment and community.

Old Golf Course Community Survey

The City of Cape Coral is asking for your ideas and feedback to help shape the future of the Old Golf Course site. We want this space to reflect what our community values most, whether that’s creating new recreation areas, preserving natural spaces, or finding creative ways to bring people together. Your input will guide the design of the Old Golf Course Transformation, helping to transform this property into a place that serves everyone in Cape Coral.

Cleanup and planning for park development began soon after acquisition. All work avoids disturbing soil or groundwater, and stormwater studies (focused on water quality, flooding improvements, and integration with park uses) have begun.

Protected species surveys were conducted in 2024 and early 2025. Wildlife habitats—especially for burrowing owls, gopher tortoises, and Florida bonneted bats—have been identified and marked. No wildlife relocations are planned, but a temporary wildlife habitat restoration initiative is planned, primarily for birds, involving strategic vegetation planting.

Invasive tree and shrub removal began in May 2025, targeting 85 to 95% of the trees on-site identified as invasive to restore native ecosystems. Invasive removals continue and are planned to be completed in October 2025.
