Written Testimonials
Deana: Human Resources Benefits Coordinator

deana“My name is Deana and I work in the Human Resources department as a Benefits Coordinator. I have been with the City for 14 years, the Finance department for 9 years and Human Resources for 5 years. One of my favorite things to do is my wellness activities. I get to be a part of our employees making better decisions in their health and seeing awesome changes. Our wellness program is amazing and there are opportunities for all employees to participate.

I really love what I do. Besides getting to help employees in their wellness journey, I get to be a part of our retirees lives too. I love when I get to meet with an employee getting ready to retire and see their excitement for their new adventures. A lot of these employees have been with the City for over 30 years and the stories they can share are incredible!”

Jamal: Community Development Code Compliance Officer

jamal“My name is Jamal and I am a Code Compliance Officer working in the Community Development department. I have been with the City for almost a year and a half but started off as a Contract Field Support employee reading meters and eventually was hired on as a full-time employee in the Code Compliance division.

I decided to work for the City of Cape Coral because they have always been a first-class organization. I have friends that are former and current employees whom all have said the same thing. My favorite thing about working for the city is the people I work with. Everyone is always helping each other and eventually you become more like family than friends. My favorite thing about what I do is interacting with people in the community. I like to educate people on city codes and ordinances. In addition, the freedom of working outdoors, the independence of being alone and occasional working with other coworkers on projects is also enjoyable.

The thing that surprises people about my job is that I get to wear a badge like a police officer. There are several learning opportunities available such as, online certifications, web-based classes and earning a college degree.

I continue working for the City because of the friendships with coworkers, the employee benefits and hopefully one day the retirement from such a reputable and respectable local city government such as the City of Cape Coral.”

Suzanne: Financial Services Senior Administrative Specialist

suzanne“My name is Suzanne and I am a Senior Administrative Specialist in the Financial Services department and have been with the City for 18 years.

My favorite thing about the City of Cape Coral is the friendliness and helpfulness of our co-workers. I love coming to work knowing you are in a department where teamwork is present every day. If you need assistance, someone is always willing to help. We are offered excellent learning tools and webinars through our SABA learning application and we are also encouraged to sign up for webinars, classes, and conferences to keep updated with the changing technology in our fields.

I work in an environment with teamwork, good leadership, and great benefits. Working for the City of Cape Coral is more than just making a salary and having great benefits, it's working for a City that is constantly looking for ways to improve the way of life here and make the most of the tax payers dollars.”

Brad: Utilities Wastewater Operations

brad“My name is Brad and I have been with the City for 14 years and in wastewater operations for the last 3 years with the Utilities department. I started with the City of Cape Coral when the community was in a period of economic change and many people were looking for new long-term career paths. I grew up in Cape Coral. My roots are here, and I saw the advancement opportunities available.

I have been able to enjoy sustained employment even through uncertain times with the City of Cape Coral and am happy to have had the opportunity to work for such a great municipality. Having been with the City of Cape Coral for over a decade, I have been able to comprehensively compare other municipalities against our own – Cape Coral is by far superior.

The Water Reclamation division is a clean, structured work environment – a place full of opportunities to exercise intellectual stamina as much as brute strength in overcoming challenges in an evolving career as part of a team.

The best thing about working for the City is the opportunity to learn new things and to work with a variety of people. When I tell people about working at the Water Reclamation Facility, most people don’t know that Wastewater is biological, not a chemical process. They don’t realize how many people, doing different jobs, all working together, are necessary to make it possible.

There are Continuing Education Units (i.e. Bloodborne Pathogens, Confined Spaces, and Lock-out/Tag-out, etc.) as well as field-specific classes available through the University of Florida and California State University, Sacramento Foundation – for employees to earn, maintain, and advance certifications and licenses.

I have built a career with the City of Cape Coral. I plan to continue to promote with the Department and plan to retire with full benefits.”

Tara: Parks & Rec Customer Service Representative

tara“My name is Tara and I work in the Parks & Rec department as a Customer Service Representative. I have been working the City for 4 years, the first 2 years as a contract employee and the last 2 years in a full-time capacity. There are many continuing learning opportunities offered for employees. Many trainings including CPR and First Aid, safety trainings, defensive driving, and the City also, offers Educational Reimbursements towards your degree.

My Favorite thing about working for the city and what I do is the people I work with. I can honestly say I love my job. I love coming in every morning seeing my co-workers and the Participants. You can never have a bad day here at work because the participants always manage to make you feel appreciated. It is very rewarding working for the City of Cape Coral Special Populations.

When I tell people about my job, they get excited and tell me how wonderful it is that the city of Cape Coral has a program that supports and helps people with Disabilities gain independence. They love that we teach the participants to learn life skills and that they have a place to come during the week to socialize with others.

The reason that I continue to stay working for the city is that I can work for Special Populations which is a wonderful program. I feel lucky that I am afforded a wonderful retirement and pension. The City offers a comprehensive health package which is a plus.

I absolutely adore working for Parks and Recreation, Frieda B. Smith Special Populations Center. This has been one of the best jobs I have ever had. It is very rewarding, and the people are amazing. Not only do I love my job, I also am setting up for my financial future at the same time. The city of Cape coral is a wonderful place to work and I highly recommend anyone applying as positions open.”

Betty: Clerk’s Office Assistant City Clerk

betty“My name is Betty and I am the Assistant City Clerk for the City of Cape Coral City Clerk’s Office. I joined the City as a Recording Secretary in December 2018. Within a year, I was able to utilize my working ethics, meticulous organizational skills, stellar business management practices to further my career in the City and was promoted to the Assistant City Clerk.

The City’s benefits and resources are exceptional. The opportunities to further my education as a City employee is another added value. In a short-term span, I’ve been able to further my education and knowledge through the various City platforms like the L.E.A.D.S. program, training courses via SABA, and other professional certifications. As a condition of my current position, I am currently taking courses to obtain my Certified Municipal Certification.

In my opinion, the City is focused on enhancing its employees’ professional and personal development. I chose the City of Cape Coral to be my home in 2011 and it is a pleasure to be able to live, work, and play in the City I have come to call my home.”
