Procedural Updates as of June 4th, 2025

City Council approved procedural changes to Regular City Council meetings, designed to improve meeting flow and increase public accessibility. These changes were approved at the June 4, 2025, City Council meeting and will go into effect at the Council Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, July 16, 2025.

  • Earlier Start Time: Beginning July 16, 2025, Regular City Council meetings will start at 4 p.m. instead of 5 p.m. This earlier start time is intended to enable more efficient handling of City business while preserving ample opportunity for community input.
  • Comment Cards Required: Residents wishing to speak during Citizens' Input will now be required to fill out a public comment card prior to the start of the Citizens' Input session. Comment cards will be available inside Council Chambers at the entrance. This process will help ensure an orderly and accessible Citizens' Input experience, allowing community members to wait their turn comfortably while seated.
  • Citizens' Input Moved to End of Meeting: Citizens' Input will be heard toward the end of each meeting to encourage meaningful participation. This adjustment allows more residents to attend after work and provides the opportunity to listen to presentations and discussions on agenda items before offering comments.

Sharing Visual Information

Please note:  To share visual information (spreadsheet, slides, pictures, etc.) with the City Council at a public meeting,  bring nine copies (one for each Council member and one for the Clerk's office). Any documents received by the Clerk's office will be part of the record.  You also can send emails to their Council members and attach files or provide an E-comment as described below.  View the 9/13/23 Committee of the Whole Meeting, when the City Council clarified this rule. Any questions regarding this change may be directed to City Clerk Bruns at 239-574-0417.

2nd Example:  If the meeting is at 9:00 a.m., comments received before 2:00 p.m. the business day before will be forwarded to the Council.  Please reach out to the City Clerk if you have any questions. (1-239-574-0417)
