Thank you for visiting our web site for the Cape Coral Public Works Department. Our department is primarily responsible for the construction, maintenance, operations, testing, and engineering/scientific guidance and support for Cape Coral’s infrastructure (to include: planning, design, roads, canals, stormwater systems, city buildings, fleet, etc.).

DEPARTMENT FUNCTIONSThe Department is comprised of the following Divisions:

Planning and Permitting Division - Provides supervision and direction to support the long- range planning efforts and the issuance of permits within the Public Works Department. Division also oversees the Geographic Information System (GIS).

Environmental Resources Division – Monitors the terrestrial and aquatic environments; provides environmental guidance for sustainable and responsible development through cooperative education, habitat enhancement, and other interdependent people/nature processes.

Design and Construction Division – Prepares the necessary plans and specifications for Transportation and Drainage Capital Projects and implements the construction of the improvements. The Capital Projects are identified by the Planning and Permitting Division, as well as other divisions, and using the information obtained by Survey and in coordination with the Environmental Resources Division, prepares the necessary construction plans. Project Management and Inspection Services are provided during the construction of the improvements whether by maintenance staff or outside contractors.

Survey Division – Provides Professional Surveying Services for the City of Cape Coral in support of engineering projects within the Public Right of Way (ROW), and on City owned properties. The department also oversees GIS Survey Mapping. The Survey Division has established a Vertical Control Network for use by the City and the public in support of Design, Construction, Planning, Insurance and Flood Management Projects. The Survey Division does not provide surveys to the public or performs surveys on private property but will assist the public with survey related questions.

Maintenance – Responsible for stormwater management maintenance to include catch basis repair, street sweeping, swale reconstruction, and drainpipe replacement and improvements. It also provides the maintenance of medians, road shoulders, bridge repairs, removal of exotic plants, and new sidewalk construction and repair.

Fleet Management – Offers effective delivery of City fleet services by providing customer agencies with safe, reliable economically, and environmentally sound transportation. Fleet manages the acquisition, maintenance, and disposal of all vehicles and equipment. The division provides fuel management services, as well as, monitoring and addressing safety and vehicle recalls. Fleet Divisions’ support services are responsive to the needs of the customer departments, conserve vehicle value, and equipment investment.
